Overview
CERM Pakistan organized half day workshop on Power Risk Engineering on January 12, 2018 at Pakistan Society for Training & Development (PSTD) Karachi.
The workshop brought together the Risk Management and insurance sector and enlightened following key areas of Power Risk Engineering to the participants:
• Operational Assets Risk Control – Power Plant Risk Identification & Evaluation by Mark Shipley – Risk Engineer – Marsh London
Mark highlighted the importance of Risk Management Cycle and emphasized on the risk & threat identification, survey report benchmark, operational insurance limit setting & improvements in the overall risk profile of operational power risks, types of expected hazard, potential losses and causes of losses.
• Risk Ranking – Systematic representation of Risk Quality factors illustrated the methodology to rank and benchmark the risks i.e. Hardware, Management System and Emergency Control. Also gave the input of the best practice for the Risk survey recommendations.
• Power Risk Engineering Report – Key Information Guidelines for Insurance Risk Assessment by Ahsan Jamal – Risk Engineer – Marsh Pakistan
His session covered the steps of best practice report writing, Key pitfalls in report writing. Ahsan highlighted General principles and Key information guidelines for writing standard power risk reports. Loss estimation methodology and guidelines for risk improvement recommendations.
The workshop was attended by Insurance managers & Plant engineers of power industry, Insurance Underwriters and Risk Engineers/Surveyors.

Ahsan specializes in dealing with large and complex engineering risks in a broad range of industries, including power, energy, petrochemical, steel, textile and paper manufacturing.
